IoS Expedition – 2025

In June 2025 Vectis Expeditions headed off on a diving expedition to the Isles of Scilly

For decades the Isle of Scilly with the lure of their clear oceanic waters, marine life and many historic shipwrecks the Isles of Scilly have attracted sports divers from many clubs and groups around the UK.

Vectis Expeditions teamed up with Ed Gallop from Skin Deep to continue that tradition and take an eclectic group of divers from 8 different BSAC clubs to the IoS to dive some firm favourites and rediscover some of the lesser dived sites

.A high-pressure weather system parked itself over the island for most of the week allowing us to get out to the western rocks and the infamous Tearing Ledge.  It also enabled post diving debriefs to be conducted outdoors in the beer garden’s of Hugh Town’s pubs.

We kicked off the week with the wreck site of the Plympton and Hather (two wrecks for the price of one!) followed by the Italia.  The next day we dived the Cita (the most recent addition to IoS wrecks, sinking in 1997) followed by the Lady Charlotte.  On day 3 we headed out to Western Rocks to dive Tearing Ledge and look for HMS Eagle with a second dive on Trenemene Wall with its curious seals.  We revisited Tearing Ledge and the Italia the next day before the weather closed in.  Day 5 we sheltered from the easterlies and dived the SS Brinkburn off Maiden Bower Rocks.  We finished Day 6 on one of the signature dives of the island, the King Cadwallon as well as revisiting the Cita.

We stayed at Longstone Lodge which enabled us to self-cater for the entire group.   Thanks to Fiona for sorting out the self-catering menu with guest recipes from Steve J (chicken dansak) and Elliot (tiramisu).

Thanks to all for making this such a memorable trip: Fiona, Steve J, Steve E, Geoff, Elliot, Woz, Ian, Karen, John and Andy M.

Thanks to Ed the skipper for being willing to explore off the beaten track!
